Fifty notes, eleven weeks, one argument you haven’t settled.

Read end to end, this folder is not a pile of quotes. It is a single sustained case — made from four different traditions that mostly don’t know about each other — that the thing you are doing to get what you want is the thing preventing it. It is also, in at least 3 places, an argument with itself.

Instagram supplied 41 of the 50. Roughly 20 are in Chinese — and that split turns out to matter more than a language preference. It marks two different systems for justifying the same advice.

What’s here

Themes — the ten clusters the fifty notes actually fall into, with the notes that make each case.

The Map — how the ideas connect: one root condition, two costs, four places to intervene, and the single destination they all point at. Plus the second, much worse road that arrives at the same place.

Tensions — where the collection contradicts itself. Three of these are sharp enough that acting on one note means ignoring another.

Notable — the things that only show up when you read all fifty at once.
